Thank you for helping me reach my Walk ALS Triangle fundraising goal! The Walk ALS Triangle raises funds to support the ALS community in North Carolina and to build ALS awareness to find treatments and a cure. This is for you, Mom!

 

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, talk, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis. ALS can strike anyone, at any age and there is still no known cause or cure.

 

I’m walking for my mom, Florence “Terry” Hayes.  Known as Nina to her 8 grandchildren and countless other children she loved.  Her battle with ALS was cruel and short, it seems unfair and undeserved. That's why I'm walking. To build a future without ALS.  To bring help and hope to patients and families affected by this terrible disease, in the hopes that one day ALS is a disease of the past.  I hope one day others will never witness ALS affect a loved one the way we watched it affect our Mom and Nina.

 

Over the past few years, there have been advancements in ALS research, as well as expanded resources and access to care for people living with ALS.  

 

But now, more than ever, we need to keep the momentum going.  We need to continue to push for more treatments and find a cure for ALS.
