We love you to the mountains and back!
The Drifters
The Drifters are back in 2025 for our third year to fundraise and walk our way to defeat ALS in loving memory of our beloved Carol-wife, mom, grammy, family member, and friend. We are forever grateful for the many significant things and resources that the NC Chapter of the ALS Association provided that made each day more livable for her. As members of the team, The Drifters, we were inspired to create our name remembering the joy our Carol received from her cat Drifter who brought great comfort and companionship to her especially during her illness.
In participating in the Walk to Defeat ALS, we invite others to join us either in the walk in Winston-Salem, to virtually walk in your neighborhood, or if you're so moved to simply make a financial contribution to the NC Chapter of the ALS Association in support of our fundraising efforts in this endeavor.
ABOUT ALS
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive, fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body of its ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. The life expectancy of a person with ALS averages 2 to 5 years from the time of diagnosis.
ALS can strike anyone. Presently there is no known cause of the disease, yet it still costs loved ones an average of $250,000 a year to provide the care people living with ALS and their families need.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP
Every 90 minutes a person in this country is diagnosed with ALS and every 90 minutes another person will lose their battle against this disease. ALS occurs throughout the world with no racial, ethnic, or socioeconomic boundaries.
The ALS walk helps to advocate, spread awareness, and raise crucial funding that helps go toward research in finding a cure and also helps to provide essential care, resources, and support to those living with ALS and their families free of charge.
