2026 WALK ALS Down East

ECU Baseball - Mustache March

Join Us in STRIKING OUT ALS in Honor of Coach Keith LeClair

As most of Pirate Nation knows, the ECU Baseball program has been deeply impacted by ALS. Former Head Coach Keith LeClair was diagnosed with ALS while coaching at East Carolina University and later passed away after his courageous battle with the disease.

Today, the ECU Baseball program continues to embody the mission, vision, and characteristics that made Coach LeClair such a tremendous leader, father, friend, and coach. Since 2016, together we have raised more than $75,000 — and this year, we continue the fight to STRIKE OUT ALS in Coach LeClair’s honor.

All donations support funding for research, advocacy efforts, and local programs that directly assist families through the ALS North Carolina Association chapter. Your generosity helps ensure that individuals and families living with ALS receive critical resources and support at no cost.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

Every 90 minutes, someone in the United States is diagnosed with ALS — and every 90 minutes, someone loses their battle with this disease. ALS affects people across all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

ABOUT ALS

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive and fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs individuals of their ability to walk, speak, swallow, and eventually breathe. The average life expectancy following diagnosis is two to five years.

ALS can strike anyone. While there is currently no known cause or cure, the financial impact on families is staggering — averaging $250,000 per year in care-related expenses.

Join the movement today to help provide support, spread awareness, and bring hope to those facing ALS.

Together, we can STRIKE OUT ALS.
